Buying refurbished IT is one of the simplest ways an organisation can reduce its environmental impact, and its costs, at the same time.
Most people assume a computer’s footprint comes from the electricity it uses. In fact, most of it is spent before the device is ever switched on. Around 70 to 80% of a computer’s lifetime carbon emissions come from manufacturing alone, so extending the life of equipment you already have does far more for the planet than replacing it with something new.
And the impact is real: reusing a single desktop and monitor, rather than buying new, can avoid roughly a tonne of CO₂.
Put simply, the greenest device isn’t the newest one. It’s the one that’s already in use.
Refurbishment is only the start
At pure IT, sustainability isn’t a bolt-on. It’s built into how we work. Refurbishing technology already cuts the environmental cost of IT, but we wanted to go a step further.
